Look beneath the resemblance

Type 1 & Type 3

Both may work hard, improve a process, and set demanding goals.

The difference to explore

What is the behavior trying to do?

One may work to meet a standard they feel responsible for. Three may use accomplishment to establish personal value, even privately. Ask whether the feared shortfall concerns correctness or what the result says about your worth.

Use an actual moment

Turn recognition into reflection.

Recall one recent moment when you felt defensive or stuck. Which concern was more present: “To live with integrity and make things better.” or “To feel valuable through what you can accomplish, whether or not others see it.”? Describe what you wanted to protect before deciding which type fits.

Try this over three days

Choose a small task with no audience and define a workable stopping point. When you stop, record whether your unease concerns a standard left unmet or what the result says about your value. Private achievement can matter to either pattern.

There is room to remain undecided.

You can relate to both descriptions. Look for the motivation that recurs across settings, and include examples that challenge your first impression. This comparison adds reflection, not a new test score.
