Look beneath the resemblance

Type 4 & Type 8

Both may be intense, candid, and unwilling to accept a superficial account of things.

The difference to explore

What is the behavior trying to do?

Four may push for emotional truth and recognition. Eight may push for directness and control over what affects them. Ask what you are protecting when you become more forceful.

Use an actual moment

Turn recognition into reflection.

Recall one recent moment when you felt defensive or stuck. Which concern was more present: “To understand and express a meaningful, authentic identity.” or “To keep agency and protect yourself and the people who matter to you.”? Describe what you wanted to protect before deciding which type fits.

Try this over three days

After a minor disagreement, write the sentence you most wanted the other person to understand. Notice whether it asks them to recognize your personal experience or to respect the part of your life they must not control.

There is room to remain undecided.

You can relate to both descriptions. Look for the motivation that recurs across settings, and include examples that challenge your first impression. This comparison adds reflection, not a new test score.
