Look beneath the resemblance

Type 2 & Type 4

Both may place great importance on emotional connection and feeling seen.

The difference to explore

What is the behavior trying to do?

Two may move toward another person’s needs to create a bond. Four may look for recognition of a distinct inner experience. Notice whether you first offer care or explain what feels deeply personal.

Use an actual moment

Turn recognition into reflection.

Recall one recent moment when you felt defensive or stuck. Which concern was more present: “To feel loved and connected through care for others.” or “To understand and express a meaningful, authentic identity.”? Describe what you wanted to protect before deciding which type fits.

Try this over three days

After a minor misunderstanding, write the acknowledgment you wished to hear before discussing it further. Notice whether you wanted your care for the person recognized or the distinct meaning of your own experience understood.

There is room to remain undecided.

You can relate to both descriptions. Look for the motivation that recurs across settings, and include examples that challenge your first impression. This comparison adds reflection, not a new test score.
